All the years that I’ve gone to Yosemite, I hadn’t visited the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir until October, 2016! I don’t know why I waited so long to go there, but it was definitely worth the short trip.
Below are two photos taken from on top of the dam. The first one is of the reservoir and the second is of the river canyon on the other side of the dam. You can see all the water being released to the river in the second photo. This reservoir acts as the primary water source for the city and county of San Francisco and several surrounding municipalities of the greater San Francisco Bay area.
There is currently a call to have the dam removed and bring the Hetch Hetchy Valley back to it’s original state. Please visit the website regarding this large undertaking by clicking on the following link:
