I drove down to the Annenberg Space for Photography and Skylight Studios today and saw their latest exhibits: Identity and #GirlGaze. Both exhibits are really great!
Identity focuses on the portraiture work of Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and is broken down into five groups: The Latino List; The Women’s List; The Trans List; The Out List; The black List. The photographs in the exhibit are portraits of individuals from different backgrounds who have made significant accomplishments in their fields of work. I like the way all the portraits were taken against the same gray background; it made the exhibit flow really well. The portraits were all taken with a large format camera, so they were able to make really nice large prints for the exhibit.
As always, there is a documentary shown in the Iris room regarding the exhibit. What I didn’t realize is that there is more than one documentary for this exhibit. Each documentary has one person from each “List” describing their own personal identity experiences. I’m not sure how many documentaries there are in total, but it was nice seeing the two I saw.
The other exhibit, which is at the Skylight Studios, is called #girlgaze – a frame of mind. This exhibit focuses on the next generation of female photographers and artists from all over the world. It’s interesting to see how the younger generation of girls see themselves in today’s world.
Both exhibits run through February 26, 2017. If you get a chance, please go see them both! Admission is always free and parking with validation is $1 – $3, depending on the day you go.
Have a great week everyone!
