Mono Lake Sand Tufas

Since there was so much snow in Mammoth on my trip to the Eastern Sierra, I had to rethink my hiking plans. I decided to spend some time around the sand tufas in Mono Lake on one of the days.

Below is a photo I took at the south tufas. It was an overcast day, which made the hikes much more enjoyable. The last time I was in this area, I took photos at early morning twilight. The photos had no fine detail of the sand tufas, so I felt this time it might be nice to get some detailed photos. Usually the tufas turn golden as the sun rises, but since it was overcast, there was a kind of surreal shadowy calmness to the area. I also liked the cooler colors in the photo.

Have a great week everyone!
