Ceremonial Roundhouse

While in Yosemite Valley last fall, I walked around some areas I hadn’t been to in a long time. I went to the Yosemite Museum and found a structure I didn’t remember ever seeing; It’s a Ceremonial Roundhouse.

The roundhouse is used for ceremonial activities for the local Indian community throughout the year. Usually, four men dance around a fire, inside the roundhouse, to the beat of a chanter. Below is a photo of a fire that had been lit in the roundhouse in preparation for a ceremony that evening. I wish I had stayed around to see what kind of ceremony was going to take place.
