Fires Near And In Yosemite

As some of you may know, it’s fire season here in California and Yosemite and its surrounding communities are getting hit hard.

The Washburn Fire is currently 79% contained. The fire came exceptionally close to the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias and close to the small community of Wawona. Wawona is especially close to my heart because I spent many years growing up and going there in the summer with my family. I have since continued to go there as an adult and is where I stay when I’m in the park in the fall.

Luckily both the Mariposa Grove and Wawona have survived the Washburn fire.

However, southeast of Yosemite are a number of small communities that are dealing with a fire that is 0% contained and so far has destroyed 10 structures. This fire, Oak Fire, is definitely the biggest California fire for this season to date.

My first photography workshop was with an incredible photographer by the name of Michael Frye. He lives in one of the small communities, Mariposa, which is getting hit hard by the Oak Fire. Luckily Michael and his family are safe and his house was saved as well as many other houses in his neighborhood. Please read his blog regarding the Oak Fire by clicking the link below and keep everyone dealing with these fires in your prayers. It really is heartbreaking to see these fires unfold.
