I should have known better and prepared more for my trip in early October. I definitely did not calculate enough time or prepare well enough for visiting Lava Beds National Monument.
I did however learn a little about the area and enjoy the time I did have there. I was able to visit the Mushpot Cave, which is an interpretive cave that is well lit. Below are some images from the cave.
Originally I wanted to visit at least three caves, but after seeing Mushpot, I had just enough time to go into the Valentine Cave and then leave. Also, my headlamp did not seem bright enough for the Valentine Cave. Since the ground of the cave was jagged and the ceiling was pretty low in some areas, I did not feel safe enough to venture in very far. Better lighting would have been a big help. I was not able to see the ceiling and the floor at the same time, so it was really slow moving.
One day I will return to Lava Beds…with a big floodlight. 🙂
Have a great week everyone!
