The rain was really great over the weekend and I had hoped that the clouds over Mohave and around the Eastern Sierra Nevada would be really amazing. With that in mind, I left home at 3:30am today and went up highway 14, just above Red Rock Canyon State Park, hoping to get some great photos.
Well…the clouds weren’t very impressive. It was a good sunrise, but I was thinking that it would’ve had a little more “WOW” factor to it. Then again, every sunrise should be celebrated, with or without impressive clouds. We only get so many of them in a lifetime, especially when around the Eastern Sierra Nevada.
On a more positive note, I did find some other really great areas to photograph in the future. The reason why I didn’t photograph them today was because I was a little tired from not having enough sleep and I also want to keep a look out for weather patterns that produce some nice sky elements for the photographs.
Below is one of the sunrise shots from this morning and the other is a random shot of highway 14 facing north toward highway 395. I did like the feeling of standing in the middle of highway 14 with nobody around for miles; it felt kind of isolated but relaxing at the same time.
There’s nothing like a sunrise with complete silence around you.
