Wow! It seems that the next day after I wrote last weeks blog entry, the Yosemite website posted the date Tioga Pass would be re-opening. As of this blog entry, the road will re-open tomorrow (May 4th) at 8am! The site last week mentioned that they had begun plowing the road a couple of days before April 15th. I wonder why they waited so long to update that information… One thing for sure, I’m excited because the road will definitely be open when I go up in the beginning of June. I have a feeling there may be a little snow left over in the higher elevations, but most of the hiking trails should be easily accessible.
While up in the Sierra Nevada, I’m planning on doing some video and time lapse photography. I wanted to do some astrophotography, but this time around the stars won’t be lining up the way I want them to and the moon will be in the sky, which would add too much light and overshadow the stars. Also, this time of year there tends to be a lot of thunderstorms in the area, so spending a lot of time calculating a nighttime shoot is a little nonproductive. I’ll be checking the stars and weather patterns again before I leave on the trip, but I’m thinking later in the year would be a better option.
On the home front, I’ve just recently purchased the new Lightroom 6 upgrade. Yes, I upgraded the perpetual license version and didn’t go with a month to month subscription. I’m still not sold on the idea of paying for a software as a monthly subscription. I have Photoshop CS5 and haven’t used it in a really long time, so I don’t see why I would pay for something I don’t regularly use. For those of you who don’t know, when you subscribe to the month to month subscription through Adobe, you get both Lightroom and Photoshop for $9.99 a month (plus tax). I’m sure if I did use Photoshop more I’d think twice, but right now it isn’t cost effective for me. In a future blog entry I’ll give my review on how well the new Lightroom works.
Have a great week everyone!
