Always Finding New Things

Below is an image of a large metal medallion that I found on a boulder along the west end of the Yosemite Valley Loop trail while hiking in October 2024. If you don’t pay attention you’ll walk right by it. By chance I looked up and there it was. It’s not specifically on the trail, but a short walk off the main trail. Here is what the medallion says:

To commemorate Dr. Lafayette Houghton Bunnell one of the first party of white men to enter the Yosemite Valley in March 1851 – He proposed the name Yosemite and was the first to proclaim its beauty and wonders to the world.

Dedicated by the California Medical Association 1925 A D

I’ll have to keep an eye out for more things like that as I’m sure Yosemite has a lot more of them.

Have a great week everyone!
