I got back from Yosemite on Saturday night. The trip was AMAZING! I had the opportunity to do a lot of photography and so far am happy with the results. I’ll be posting the photos to my website in the next week. I took over 2000 images, so it’s going to take a while to go through all the files to see which ones came out good.
Below is a photo that I am very happy with. Actually, several of the images from the same shoot came out really good. I took the photo at 8:30 am on Wednesday October 30th in Yosemite Valley. I got to the Valley at around 7:00 am, which is about an hour drive from where I was staying, so I could set up the equipment early. The temperature that morning was about 28° Fahrenheit (-2.00° Celsius) according to my car thermostat. Even though it was cold, it was worth the effort.
The big surprise of the morning shoot was that I was all alone at the location, which is usually flooded with photographers. However, right before the light show took place, guess who showed up? Michael Frye and his workshop students. It was great to see him again and to hear his words of wisdom on what to do to get a really good photo. I can definitely say that his workshop students will benefit big time from their experience with him. Hearing Michael talk about exposure bracketing helped remind me of a few things I needed to do.
Oh, and as far as my equipment goes, I had a chance to try out my new camera: Olympus OM-D E-M1. It worked great and gave me the best results I could have hoped for. I think this mirrorless camera is going to really make a big change in the way photography is done. Check out the camera at www.olympusamerica.com.
