I went to the Annenberg Space for Photography today and saw the current exhibit – Country: Portraits of an American Sound. The images in the exhibit are of pioneers, poets, and icons of country music. Photos in the exhibit include the following artists: Nudie Cohn, Gram Parsons, Tammy Wynette, Minnie Pearl, Brenda Lee, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, The Band Perry, Taylor Swift, and Keith Urban.
The one artist that really has some nice portraits, especially in black and white, is country music legend Johnny Cash. This musician is definitely someone who can turn any photo into an instant classic. He has a look and persona that really comes front and center in any photo.
The exhibit is on display until September 28th, so if you have the time, go see it. Hey, it’s always free to visit the Annenberg! Parking is $3 with validation and on Sundays it’s only $1.00!
When I was leaving the Annenberg, I asked one of it’s volunteers what the next exhibit was going to be. He said it should be announced in the next couple of week, but would not be on display until December. He said the museum is getting a huge overhaul for the new exhibit which includes updated video screens and sound system in the theater section. I’m sure with all that work it’s going to be something amazing.
