I consider myself a photographer. With that in mind, I try to do as much work as possible in camera so I can avoid spending a lengthy amount of time in front of the computer. I really feel that when someone takes a picture and puts it into Camera Raw (the photo processing engine in Photoshop), that is still considered photography. However, when someone pulls the photo out of Camera Raw and into the mainframe of Photoshop, I begin to question if it is photography or graphic design. I don’t worry about that with my photos because I do all of my work in Lightroom.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Photoshop, but sometimes I think some people who use it tend to over use it. One such story that might surprise you is the one regarding a photo competition that Nikon held and it’s winner who went beyond what a true photographer would do. If you want to see what I mean, click on the following link and read the story. It really makes you wonder where to draw the line between graphic design art work and photography.
