During the last day of my recent trip to the Eastern Sierra, I was really hesitant about leaving. I left Mammoth at about 9:30am, but didn’t feel like making the drive home yet. Since Tioga Pass wasn’t open, I had to take hwy 395, but decided to wait until later that afternoon to go down the hill to Bishop. I needed to find something fun to do.
I first tried to go to Convict Lake, but since it was a Saturday, everyone in the universe was there. Talk about no parking!
I then took some side roads through the hills and ended up at Tom’s Place. Then I remembered how amazing Rock Creek Canyon was during the fall one year and decided to go see what kind of adventures I could find up there. I definitely wasn’t disappointed!
I ended up at Rock Creek Lake and hiked all over the area. The lake still had snow and ice, so it made for a really cool day. Below is a picture I took of the lake that afternoon.
As luck would have it, the cafe at the Rock Creek Lakes Resort had opened for the first day of the season. I ordered a burger to go and ate it by the lake. Nothing like eating a great meal while sitting on a boulder next to a partially frozen lake! 🙂
I ended up leaving around 2:30pm that day and headed home. It was about 93 degrees in Bishop and 95 degrees in Mojave. Part of me wished I’d stayed by the lake! I’m definitely going back to Rock Creek Lake in the future…
Have a great week everyone!
