It’s hard to say if Tioga Pass is going to be open when I go up to the Eastern Sierra after Memorial Day. The snow plows are making great progress, but they’re met with snow as deep as 8 to 10 feet. Caution has to be used when plowing because you never know if there are large rocks or fallen trees under the snow.
If the pass doesn’t open, I may take the option of driving around the mountains from the north and come in through one of the west entrances. That’s a lot of driving, but it may be worth it. We’re talking just over 300 miles and 6 1/2 hours of drive time. 🙂
Below is a picture I took from Yosemite Valley in April 2014. This was at the same time I took photos of the dogwood blooms around the valley. The amount of snow on the cliffs in the photo probably isn’t any where near the same amount that’s up there this year. It was almost a 200 percent snow year this last winter. It’ll be interesting to see how much snow I come across in the mountains.
Have a great week everyone!
