Subway Lava Tube Cave

While in the area of Lassen Volcanic National Park, I went and visited the Subway Lava Tube Cave, which is northeast of the small town Old Station.

This is a fun thing to visit at any age. It gets pretty dark in the cave, so if you’re ever in the area and decide to go, be sure to bring a good flashlight with you! The cool temperature inside the cave was nice for a fairly warm summer day.

Below are some photos I took at the cave. The stairs leading down to the cave is the exit I took at one end. Here is what the plaque reads in the one photo:

Subway Cave

Cave length: 1,300 feet
Average Cave Temperature: 46 degrees

Welcome to the Subway Cave! This easy 1/3 mile walk will lead you through the underground world of a lava tube. It begins and ends at the parking area. Take a good light (or two), a jacket, and follow the interpretive signs for a self-guiding tour.

Have a great week everyone!
