Time-Lapse Fun

This weekend I took my first shot at creating a time-lapse video. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s when you take multiple images (usually at a specific time frame, like every 4 seconds) and combine them to create a short video. Usually you need extra equipment attached to the DSLR to do it (like an intervalometer), but with my new Olympus OM-D E-M1, I’m able to program the camera to not only take the images at specific time intervals, but also create the video itself as opposed to having a third party software do it.

The one I created was of a sunset at Ventura Harbor. I ended up taking 500 still images and the camera processed it quite good. The only thing that was frustrating was that once you program the camera to take the images, you can’t change any of the setting without ending the process. This was difficult to deal with because as sunset approached I needed to make exposure adjustment to the pictures and couldn’t. There may be a way to change that, but I’ll have to read the camera manual a little more closely.

I haven’t loaded my time-lapse to my website yet, but will soon. In the meantime check out a time lapse video example by clicking here.
