Tioga Pass will normally open around Memorial Day after a regular snow season. However, since the Sierra Nevada had an extraordinary winter season for 2022/2023, it looks like the pass won’t open until July. With as much snow as there’s up there, I’m guessing somewhere around the third week of July! I know that sounds ridiculous, but that may be the case this year.
Below is an image from November 1, 2013 in Tuolumne Meadows. I’m thinking the snow level this spring right now is probably more than half way up the pine trees in the picture. I know that looking at the photos from the winter rangers in Yosemite, the east entrance cabin is completely buried up to the top of the chimney at this time. Talk about crazy!
I really need to get out and take photos this year! Most of my images may not happen until this fall because I’m dealing with some medical issues. Everything is ok, it’s just multiple doctor visits make it difficult to get away until the fall. By then I should be good to hit the road! 🙂
Have a great week everyone!
